Wharfedale Pro Typhon-AX12-BT

In ancient mythology, Typhon was a giant who brought fear to his enemies. From a similar era to the Titans, it is said that the God Typhon had the power to create and control massive wind tornadoes in his battles. Mythology also often refers to him as being invincible. Power, control, and “invincibility” are all features that the new Typhon active loudspeakers have been designed around. Two 12" models are available. Typhon-AX12—a 12” 2-way 720W continuous active loudspeaker and an aptX Bluetooth-enabled brother—the Typhon-AX12-BT. The all-new internal amplifiers deliver over 140% more power than Titan-AX12.

Amplifiers The two separate Class D power amps (600W continuous for the LF and 120W continuous for the HF) deliver huge output power while keeping the overall weight to a minimum. Bi-amplification means that each amplifier is perfectly matched to the driver it is connected to. This leads to a more defined sound quality with crisper highs and more impressive lows. The efficiency of the amplifier stages means that Typhon uses convection cooling and has no need for an internal fan. This results in a more reliable product with quieter operation.

DSP Technology

Titan D models are equipped with Qubit™, our new powerful and precise 24-bit 192 kHz DSP processing. With advanced adaptive multi-band dynamic processing and filtering, Qubit helps fine-tune your system to sound natural and open. Qubit processing optimizes the loudspeaker to provide smooth digital crossover points that are perfectly aligned in terms of phase response and time domain. Protection is offered in the form of true independent adaptive LF and HF signal limiting that helps protect against thermal damage and driver overexcursion. Qubit has an extended frequency response that goes way beyond the capabilities of our hearing, providing an extended phase response that remains linear throughout our natural hearing range. This enables Titan D to reproduce exceptionally natural transients and exhibit perfectly aligned time-domain characteristics.

The perfect monitor angle

Often, active loudspeakers are used as floor monitors. However, at the design stage, it can lead to cabinet design compromises. To overcome this 'compromise,' Typhon is supplied with a special wedge angle adaptor. This 'wedge' gives you the perfect angle for using it onstage as a floor monitor, but it has not compromised the fundamental shape and design of the Typhon cabinet.
